My Mother’s Heart Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
founded by Dr. Charkarra Anderson-Lewis in memory of her mother, Murriel
Anderson Cook, who died of heart disease at the age of 36.
Believing in the value of good health, the mission of My Mother’s Heart
Foundation is to educate women especially African American women and
their families about the power of good health, specifically their heart health,
and the importance of preventive health care. The foundation is designed
to address the unique holistic health concerns of these women by providing
a community based environment for learning, celebrating, service,
empowerment, and research. The foundation envisions these women as
catalyst to improve health disparities, specifically cardiovascular health
disparities that exist in their communities.
